Existential & Systemic Concerns
Individual psychotherapy views anxiety and depression as problems based in thinking errors or distortions of reality. However, these reactions are often appropriate reactions to real life conditions: a warming planet, institutions that feel like they are failing in real time, an economy that prioritizes a few rather than the many, and the exhausting daily experience of surviving rather than thriving in ‘the American dream.’
We do not assume that the goal is to feel less. In fact, this is not possible. Instead, we look to feel the intensity that existential and systemic concerns evoke, without these feelings taking over your life or leaning in to numbing disconnection. We aim to help you to feel these things and still take meaningful action to make life worth living.
This work might be for you if:
You feel climate grief, climate dread, or eco-anxiety
Political news and instability affect you deeply and regularly
You feel a persistent sense that economic and social systems are either no longer working or were not made to benefit you in the first place
You are tired of receiving advice or skills that ignore the actual conditions driving your distress
You want to stay engaged and informed without it destabilizing you
You are navigating how these larger realities intersect with your own identity, trauma, or life direction
